This coin is, for most collectors, one of the best ways to get into collecting gold coins. It's relatively cheap. low risk, and doesn't sell for much over the spot price. You can get one of these for around $85 right now, and the gold itself is worth $73. Not too bad of a deal at all. I'd been perusing eBay for small gold coins like this, and the 2 1/2 peso caught my eye first, though I was still open to the 2 peso coin. As fate would have it, this coin was the one that I saw at the flea market. And of course I just happened to have the exact amount of cash needed (after I traded in a few silver coins). So I bought the coin and away I went, now an owner of a gold coin, for the second time. My last gold coin was sold years ago so I'm happy to be back in the club.

1933 Double Eagle!
| Edge inscription "1933 Double Eagle" |
Not exactly a 1933 Double Eagle, but close enough. This is one of those types of coins that you normally see on TV or in a magazine that is advertised as being clad in x (amount) milligrams of pure gold; clad being the key word. The entire coin contains almost no gold and a lot of base metal, the base metal most likely being copper or some other gold-like metal. Coins like this are nice for putting in the spots of extremely rare coins, such as the 1933 Double Eagle or the 1804 Silver Dollar, but that's about it. Since there is so little gold in the plating, the coin is practically worthless just for gold and since base metals are also practically worthless this coin has very little metal value. As for collector value I'd say $30.00 is a fair estimate considering I've seen this coin going for anywhere from $20.00-$50.00 and most people don't want a fake coin in their collection.

6 Months!
It's been 6 months since my first post and I have shown coins old, rare, new, common, silver, steel, copper, nickel, and everything in between. I found my first silver coin in change after years of waiting and got some coins I could've wiated for. So far this year I have added 4 new bills and over 25 new coins to my collection (not including pre-1982 Lincoln Cents and 1964 nickels.) I have had an awesome 6 months and can't wait to see what the next six hold. Happy Hunting!

Money!!!
These are some coins on display in Washington D.C. On the left are some $5 bills showing the different designs over the years. On the right are some different designs of coins. The larger ones are silver dollars from Morgan to Eisenhower. Above those are gold dollars similar to the one I posted about yesterday. Under the dollars are half dollars, quarters, and dimes.
