1992 Russian Rouble! Commemorative: 1 Year of Democracy

Here's that commemorative rouble I promised last week. This coin is pretty big in comparison with the regular rouble coins of its day. It's around half dollar sized and the regular roubles are penny sized. It is also made of copper and nickel whereas the other roubles were brass plated steel. Though it has a mintage of only 700,000 it did not see circulation therefore it is more abundant and worth about $2.50.

1992 Russian 10 Roubles!

Here's a nice transitional coin. As most of us know, the 1990's were the years that saw the Soviet Union dissolve. Russia issued coins that were rather plain like this as a transition from their communist-oriented coinage. They saved the fancy, expensive looking coins for their commemoratives, one of which I have and will be posting next week. Like I said this coin is rather plain and worth around $0.50.

1992-M Russian Rouble (России Pубль)!

Ah, Russia. What a place, what a history. This 1 Rouble coin came from that historic country where it lived a short life. As most of us know, the Soviet Union basically dissolved in the early 90's. This meant Russia had to make some new, non-communist coins. The result is this coin. It's pretty small for a dollar coin which led me to first believe it was a 1 Kopeck coin. Actually, it was the smallness of the 50 Rouble coin that led me to think it was 50 Kopecks, which then led me to believe that this was a 1 Kopeck coin. Anyway, this coin was coin circulated for five years and was demonetized and replaced by the newer Rouble which looks somewhat cooler. This coin is worth about $0.25.

1961 Russian 20 Kopeks!

Got this for I don't remember how much at the flea market. All I remember is it was cheap. It's a pretty nice coin and the only Russian coin I have. The only problems are the damage on and near the final 1 in 1961 and some wear. It's nice how the hammer and sickle are over the globe too bad for them it didn't work out. From what I understand CCCP stands is an abbreviation for the Soviet Union. I'm guessing that's wheat on the obverse and reverse on the sides. Other than that there's really nothing special to point out about the design. Oh and this is worth about $0.30.
