1962 Peruvian 5 Centavos!

Back in time to 1962, a time when silver was common in American change and silver coins were produced in the millions. However, this was not the case for Peru. They made silver coins earlier in their history, but by this time, their coins were brass. The lack of precious metals in their currency is made up for by the amazingly beautiful designs and the fact that most countries had stopped producing silver by this time. This coin comes in two varieties, curved and straight 9. I'm guessing mine is the curved but it doesn't really matter since both are worth $0.10.

1998 Peru 5 Centimos!

Here's the only Peruvian coin I own that didn't come straight from Peru. I got it around a year ago in a coin trade. It's in UNC although, since I don't have a foreign coin book, I can't say what grade exactly. I'm guessing that is braille on the obverse, although I'm not sure what it says. What I do know is that the Lima Mint Mark is under the word "Centimos" on the obverse. Click the picture to get a better look. Other than this coin being worth $0.35 I don't have anything else to say.

2007 Peru 1 Centavo!

This coin sure has taken a beating. It seems to me that lower denomination coins get worn down and damaged faster than any other coin in a country (except British pounds). I suppose they are the least liked and therefore the least cared about. However, there is one good thing about this coin. It is worth $0.10 and I have 3. The picture below shows where the mint mark is. It's a bit hard to see in this picture.
