1944-? Lamination Error Nickel!

Got this error coin at the place where I get most of my bought coins. I got it and a few other similar "nickels" to add to mt very small error collection. The error on this coin is a result of metal peeling off of the coin's surface due to gas, dirt, or oxides being trapped as the strip is rolled to the proper thickness. Apparently this was pretty common for these nickels and this coin is only worth $2.50.

1967 Canadian Centennial Nickel!

Bought this extremely attractive coin at the flea market. I can say without a doubt that this coin is uncirculated. Too bad it's common. If you didn't already know Canada became its own country in 1867 and issued special coins in 1967 to celebrate. They changed the design on the reverses to have a new design like the bicentennial American coins. Unlike 1976 American coins the dual date was on the reverse. These nickels usually featured a beaver on a log but the design was changed to have a rabbit. It is worth $0.20.

1980's British £1.00 Bill!

Remember those posts that were all gifts a little over a week ago? This is also one of those gifts.  The obverse has the Queen Elizabeth II, a neat little design of sorts, and all of the standard stuff. The reverse has Sir Isaac Newton and some sciencey (<---Not a word) stuff. Both sides show the watermark in the far right (reverse) and far left (obverse). This note is worth about $2.00.

1922 German 5 Pfennig!

 

 Another German coin now enters the post region of my blog. According to my labels I have posted about German coins more than any other foreign coins. Hooray Germany! On to the coin. It has pretty sharp detail but I think it is discolored. There's a very nicely drawn/engraved eagle on the reverse and the same old boring stuff on the obverse. It is worth $0.10.

1967 Kennedy Half Dollar!

(Obviously) Bought this at the flea market and got a pretty good deal for it. It was marked for $7.00 and I only paid $5.00. Based on today's silver price I paid $0.96 more than the silver price which is an awesome deal. This coin is worth around $4.00 based on silver (it is worth less than silver in the book).

1946 Portugese 1 Escudo!

I don't know much about Portugal but I do know that they made beautiful coins. This one just caught my eye so I decided to get it. The obverse depicts Liberty facing right and the reverse depicts the Portugese Coat of Arms. It is worth about $0.50.

1961 Russian 20 Kopeks!

Got this for I don't remember how much at the flea market. All I remember is it was cheap. It's a pretty nice coin and the only Russian coin I have. The only problems are the damage on and near the final 1 in 1961 and some wear. It's nice how the hammer and sickle are over the globe too bad for them it didn't work out. From what I understand CCCP stands is an abbreviation for the Soviet Union. I'm guessing that's wheat on the obverse and reverse on the sides. Other than that there's really nothing special to point out about the design. Oh and this is worth about $0.30.

1941-A German 10 Reichspfennig!

Bought this historic coin at the flea market. If you notice the date or the Swastika you will notice it is from Nazi Germany. Nazi coins have always kind of interested me because they aren't usually seen and most people won't even buy or sell them. Even though they're not that rare they're still pretty cool. This one is only worth $0.20.

1996 Canadian $2.00 Coin!

Got Was practically given this coin at the flea market. I had already bought a bunch of coins (most of which will be shown in the upcoming days) and only had a few dollars left to spend on whatever caught my eye. As I was walking around I noticed a box that had a few coins in it. This was one of those coins. I asked the man at the table how much it was and he said $1.00. I was pretty happy to have made $1.00 but not as happy to have found out it was only worth $2.00. Anyway it's worth... oh yeah I already said that. I do think the bimetallic thing is cool. Maybe presidential dollars and Sacagewea dollars would be more popular if they looked cooler. Just an idea...

1992-S American Proof Set!

Oooooooo shiny. Here's yet another gift. I'm not sure how it got to be like this but it is. I hope to get some 2x2 holders for them but for now they'll have to sit in my coin box. Maybe I'll get some holders next week at the flea market but for now these coins are unprotected. The whole set is worth $6.00 but this is probably less with no plastic covering, case, or certificate of authenticity.

1973 Canadian $1.00 Bill!

                                              Just as a forewarning I speak Canadian.

This, like the British 2 Shillings I posted aboot yesterday, was a gift. I don't know much aboot Canadians or their country, but they do have beautiful currency. The nice, vibrant colours and the reverse are amazing. At a time American bills were like this with all sorts of fancy designs and the denomination on the bill at least 10 times. Now they have colours, but they could use some design changes. Cheque out down below for the rest of the post.

This is that same reverse just enlarged. It depicts well... this. It immediately reminded me of the 1914 American  $10.00 bill which has what looks to be a horse drawn plow on the left and a factory on the right. Back to this Canadian Bill it is only worth $1.00.

1966 British Two Shillings!

Got this as a gift the other day. It is a 1966 British 2 Shillings coin. It is fairly worn and has a big scratch on the Queen's head. However, it is still a beautiful coin. I love this early Queen Elizabeth II design. It's far better than the ones on today's coins. Anyway it is sadly only worth $0.20.

1995 Canadian Dime!

I think I got this as a gift sometime last year. I don't really know much about it other than it is magnetic (It is made of pure nickel) and it is in rough shape. In this condition it is only worth $0.10. Today's background is a newspaper.

1979-(P) Quarter!

Got this change find yesterday. For coming from change it's in pretty nice shape. It was probably in a mint set and got tossed into circulation or was saved since '79 or the early 80's. It is worth about $0.75.

1965 Special Mint Set! (The Complete Set)

This is the entire 1965 Special Mint Set. It features all the coins, the address to San Fransisco Mint, and the certificate of authenticity/information sheet. Altogether the set is worth about $8.00. On the other hand if you took out each coin and sold them individually together they would all be worth $5.52 for just plain UNC (based on all of my previous 1965 Special Mint Set posts.)

NOTE: I will probably be posting more foreign coins from my "reserves" since I'm running out of interesting American finds/buys. I've got plenty of silver dimes to post, but that would get kinda boring so every once in a while I'll post a dime or two and only as a last resort will I only post the dimes.

1965 Special Mint Set! (Part Five)

This is the fifth and final coin in the 1965 Special Mint Set. It is the half dollar and is the only coin made of silver. Well 40% silver anyway. It is worth about $3.50.

1965 Special Mint Set! (Part Four)

This is the fourth part of the set. It is the quarter, of course. It was the first time that the copper-nickel clad was used in the quarter because silver was becoming too expensive. It is worth about $0.50-$0.75. 

1965 Special Mint Set! (Part Three)

This is the thrid part of this series. It feaures the dime of the set. This was the first year copper-nickel dimes were made in replacement of the 90% silver because of rising silver prices. It is worth about $1.00.

1965 Special Mint Set! (Part Two)

Yes I am going in order of denomination from least to greatest in this series. This is obviously the nickel in the set. For some more information on why Special mint sets were made click -->HERE<--. It is in UNC and is worth about $0.25.

1965 Special Mint Set! (Part One)

This is the cent in my 1965 Special Mint Set. I actually got it from... wait I'll say where in the final part. Special Mint Sets were issued because of the lack of coinage in circulation because people were hoarding the silver coins. They were made on polished dies but weren't treated like proof coins after they were struck. Back to this coin it was made at the San Fransisco Mint although it bears no mint mark (this is because the mints didn't want collectors plucking coins out of circulation if one mint mark was scarcer than the others). It is in Uncirculated (of course). It is worth about $0.15.

2011-P Nickel!

Got this nickel in change last year although I can't remember when. It would be in great condition if it were'nt for the marks on the obverse. It is worth $0.05-$0.10. Today's background is a wallet.

1942 British 3 Pence!

A coin on a cylindrical can there's a difficult shot! Well I suppose it's not as dificult if you have two-sided tape like I did. Anyway this is a British or English 1942 Three Pence coin. It's got some staining of some sort on it and is pretty worn. It is worth about $0.50. Today's background is a can of Coca-Cola.

Worn Down To Nothing (almost) Half Cent Version!

Here's something I haven't done in a while a WDTN(A)! Obviously I didn't get this from circulation so that leaves one clear explanation (if you're new here read some of my older posts). It is a coin that is not often seen for two reasons. 1.) It is a half cent. 2.) It is an error coin. There is a rotation on the reverse of about 40 degrees. Without the rotation a regular 1810-(P) Half Cent is worth $75.00. This one with the rotation is worth $100.00.

1919-S Mercury Dime!

The story behind this coin goes a little like this. I'm at the flea market looking to buy some silver. I see these worn, cheap silver dimes. I decide to buy a few and this is one of them. It has some damage on the obverse and is obviously very worn. It is worth silver value which can accurately be found for whatever day, week, month, or year at www.coinflation.com. Current silver value is about $2.00. Today's background is a plastic bag that I got sometime during my trip to Egypt.
